Our Apprenticeship Programs

The Lincoln Electrical JATC has 3 types of electrical apprenticeship programs available. One is what we call an Inside program another is an Installer/Technician program and the 3rd is a Construction Wiremen/Construction Electrician program.

The Inside program is a 5-year apprenticeship that combines both on-the-job training and classroom instruction. The work processes of an Inside Apprentice would include but are not limited to conduit bending, pulling and terminating conductors and devices, blueprint reading, motor controls, installation of raceways, fire alarm, lighting, in short it encompasses all electrical work except for Outside Lineman work. The requirements to complete the Inside program include at least 900 hours of classroom instruction plus at least 8,000 hours of on-the-job training plus take and pass the State of Nebraska Journeyman Electrician exam plus complete the 5 levels of the National Electrical Certification Boards Craft Certification.

The Installer/Technician program is a 3-year apprenticeship that just like the Inside program combines on-the-job training and classroom instruction. The work processes of an Installer/Technician Apprentice would include data communication, nurse call systems, CCTV, fiber optics, energy management systems, fire alarm, security systems, in short their scope of work would be limited to systems of generally 50 volts and lower. The requirements to complete the Installer/Technician program include at least 480 hours of classroom instruction plus at least 4,800 hours of on-the-job training.

The Construction Wiremen/Construction Electrician or CW/CE program is a self-paced program that requires at least 14,000 hours of on-the-job training and the completion of 6 levels of Craft Certification to complete. It is not a structured program like the Inside and Installer Tech programs are. You progress at your own pace and control how quickly you advance through the program. You are by no means required to advance and could remain at any level for as long as you wish to. It is another avenue for you to obtain journeyman status in the IBEW. This is for those with and without electrical experience.

The curriculum comes from the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC) and it is constantly evaluated and changes made regularly to ensure we are providing our apprentices the most comprehensive up-to-date training material in the electrical industry. If you want a world of opportunities that are only limited by your own desires then look no further than an IBEW/NECA apprenticeship program, you will not be disappointed!
